The Tweed Hospital, a major Non-Metropolitan hospital, is the main public referral hospital for residents of Tweed and Byron LGAs in Northern NSW and several southern Gold Coast statistical local areas in Queensland. It is located within a residential area, beside the Tweed River, approximately 600 metres from the Tweed Heads/Coolangatta town centre.
The project will be staged to reflect available funding commitments:
Stage 1A shall comprise a scope of works that is within the allocated funding envelope of $48 million. This comprises of construction of a 2 storey building over the southern service area with potential for a future additional 2 floors on top. This includes: New loading dock facilities and alterations to access to Support Services at ground level, Parking to replace spaces lost as a result of the redevelopment, Expansion and refurbishment of the Perioperative Suite at Level 2 to provide 2 new fully fitted out Operating Theatres, 2 Theatres constructed as a ‘warm shell’ for future fit out and a replacement procedures room, Construction of a new CSSU and engineering plant area at Level 3, Construction of a roof slab and structural elements at Level 4, designed to permit future vertical expansion of 2 floors of Inpatient Accommodation, Provision of a new service lift and shafts for future new passenger lifts serving the new building
Stage 1B shall be the remaining works to complete the full Service Statement scope and comprise:Refurbishment and expansion of the existing Emergency Department, Refurbishment and expansion of the existing Day Oncology Unit, Construction of 2 additional floors with CCU, ICU/HDU at Level 4 and a Surgical Inpatient Unit at Level 5, Extension of the service lift and provision of new patient lifts to serve all levels, Relocation of Outpatients, Relocation of the Methadone Clinic.
Martin & Ollmann have completed the masterplan stage in conjunction with Kemp Consulting, the clinical planner for the project.
